Title
Bringing the TEEB Message to the Investment Community
Description
Biodiversity and ecosystems provide humans and businesses with goods and services vital for our social and economic development. Their degradation affects not only human well-being but business performance and related investment portfolios as well. Business competition within industry sectors will increase and bring out Best-in-Class companies. Similarly, there will be competition across sectors as well as over access to resources. The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB), a joint UNEP/EU study inspired by the Stern review, discusses these linkages. Additionally, an International Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services has now been formed. In light of the changes in the natural system's capacity as well as in global governance to manage these concerns, this presentation will take a deeper look at how investors are implicated and investigate the various options to manage ecosystem and biodiversity considerations in investment decisions.
