Erwin Sanft is Managing Director and Head of China and Hong Kong Research for BNP Paribas Securities (Asia). He joined the firm in July 2004 and currently heads the Bank’s China and Hong Kong research team of 25 analysts in the Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong offices.
His recent work includes studies on China's shift from an investment-led to a services-led economy, the impact of the single-child generation on China’s consumption growth and the globalisation of China’s capital goods sector. Erwin has been consistently ranked among the top China analysts since joining the industry in 1996. He managed CLSA’s China research team between 1998 and 2004 and covered the PRC energy, materials, power and transport sectors.
Erwin moved to China in 1992, studying at Nanjing University for two years before working at the New Zealand Consulate-General in Shanghai between 1994 and 1996. Erwin holds finance and economics degrees from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
