Drummond Pike founded Tides Foundation in 1976 and is the Chief Executive Officer of Tides Network. Awarded in 2005 as Outstanding Foundation Professional by the NSFRE, Drummond helped pioneer the broad use of donor advised funds in philanthropy and has supported grassroots and public interest organizations through environmental and social change philanthropy throughout his career. Drummond’s entrepreneurial inclinations have led to the creation of Tides Foundation, Tides Center, Tides Shared Spaces, Thoreau Center for Sustainability, and Groundsping.org among others. Drummond is responsible for the entire Tides enterprise, and, through his leadership, Tides has helped increase the capacity and effectiveness of thousands of social change organizations around the globe. Tides Network is a closely related group consisting of the following organizations: Tides Foundation managing progressive philanthropy, Tides Center nurturing startups and collaborations, Tides Shared Spaces developing real estate for nonprofits, and Tides Advocacy Fund supporting lobbying activities.


Under Drummond’s leadership, Tides Foundation has granted more than $700 million to thousands of nonprofits; and, since 1996, Tides Center has grown into the nation’s leading fiscal sponsor for charitable initiatives and has operated more than 600 nonprofit projects with combined revenues of more than $600 million, with more than 150 projects becoming independent c/3 organizations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Working Assets, a telecommunications company dedicated to progressive philanthropy and political activism, and was among the founders of its predecessor company. His service on non-profit Boards includes: Island Press, Environmental Working Group, Tides Canada Foundation, Threshold Foundation, Democracy Alliance, and Network for Good.

Drummond received a Masters of Political Science from the Eagleton Institute at Rutgers University after graduating with Honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1970. A fourth generation Californian, Drummond resides in Mill Valley, CA with his wife, Liza, founder of Resource Media, and their two children, Rachel, a PhD candidate in Chemistry at Cambridge University, and Max, who graduates from Colorado College in May, 2009. He is also a licensed commercial river guide in the Grand Canyon with Arizona Raft Adventures.
